Today is a bittersweet day for this wedding photographer.  It’s the day after Erin and Ryan had their amazing wonderful wedding day and it also means that now there is nothing else left to plan for photos.  As an Iowa wedding photographer, I am dedicated to getting to know my couples more than just hey you hired me and I’m gonna show up on your wedding day and take photos.

I try to really get to know the couple and I usually end up building a friendship at least with the bride because we have gone through the process of planning their wedding day and getting them ready for photos. I ended up being able to photograph Erin three separate times prior to the wedding day so by the time the wedding day comes around, I felt like Erin and I were just good friends! I already knew a lot about her personality, vibe, and how funny and down to earth she is.  (Future brides if you ever feel like doing a boudoir and a bridal shoot in addition to the engagement session it is so much fun and adds so much to your wedding planning process and as a photographer, I love it because I get to meet with you and photograph you four different times.)

One part of the day that really stuck out for me was when Erin gave her mother this special gift that she had made. It was a necklace that you used the diamond from her grandmother’s ring and just being able to watch that and document that moment actually made me tear up behind the camera.   The fun energy that her bridesmaids had plus the fun and quirkiness that Erin, Ryan, and Annie are together was sooooooo fun. (Annie is their sweet little  doggie.)

A cool tradition that I have never seen before was Erin’s mother in law put an old penny in Erin’s shoe, and also gave Erin her rosary to put in her floral bouquet. It was a really fun a sweet thing to see them get to share in this tradition together! Let me know in the comments if you had an interesting tradition at your wedding!

Another special thing that you could really tell throughout the wedding day was how much Erin’s dad absolutely adores her. From their super special and emotional first look to him just being mean whenever he saw her twirl in her dress and he loved to point out how sparkly and amazing her dress just lit up when it was in the sunlight.

From writing their own vows getting teary-eyed and laughing together during the ceremony to literally having their first stance on a cloud this day was full of so much meaning and so much love for these two.

As always I feel incredibly blessed and so lucky to be able to get to meet and work with such amazing people I’m so glad that I got to know both of you and I wish you both the best happiness together.
