So, you’re thinking about brand photography. Maybe you’re ready to ditch the blurry headshot from your cousin’s wedding or finally replace that one stock photo that doesn’t really match your vibe. Either way, you’ve got questions, and I’ve got answers.

Let’s dive into the most frequently asked questions about brand photography!

1. What even is brand photography?

Glad you asked! Brand photography is all about creating custom, professional images that showcase your business, your personality, and your unique vibe. Headshots are usually just a really great portrait close up. Think:

• Showcasing you on the job or at your workspace. (Dont have a photogenic space, no problem! I use studios all the time to create a work space for you!)

• Action shots of you doing your thing. It’s like a professional BTS.

• Details that tell your story. This can be things like getting personal stock images of the tools you use everyday, or some of your favorite items that your fav clients will recognize as your signature thing!

Basically, it’s the photo version of “Hey, this is me!”

2. Why can’t I just use my iPhone?

Look, I love an iPhone portrait as much as the next person. But brand photography isn’t just about taking a pretty picture it’s about telling a cohesive, professional story that connects with your audience.

Plus, a pro knows how to handle lighting, angles, and editing magic to make sure your photos scream quality not “I used Portrait Mode and hoped for the best.”

3. Do I really need this if I’m not a big company?

Yes, yes, and yes. Brand photography isn’t just for Fortune 500 companies with skyscrapers and mascots. It’s for every business that wants to look polished, professional, and approachable.

Whether you’re a one-person operation or a growing team, having high-quality visuals makes your brand look like you’ve got your act together even if you’re drinking cold coffee at 3 PM and answering emails in your pajamas.

4. What’s included in a brand photography session? Do you help with creative direction and planning for the shoot?

Great question! Every photographer is a little different, but here’s what you can typically expect in one of my main brand sessions with me:

• A planning questionnaire to go over your goals and aesthetic and any specific shots you need for upcoming marketing, campaigns or images on your website.

• A custom made shoot guide to help us the day of the shoot. No surprises or guesses, we know exactly what we are getting!

• During your session I will help pose and guide you! You do not have to know what to do in front of the camera, I will tell ya!

• Multiple outfit changes and locations/sets. (because variety is the spice of life).

• A mix of headshots, action shots, and detail shots.

• A gallery of high-quality, edited photos ready for your website, social media, and marketing materials.

I also help you with implementing your photos if you need it!

Think of it as a photoshoot designed for your business not just your face.

5. Can I use these photos on my website, social media, and marketing materials?

Yes! You’ll receive high-resolution images that are perfect for your website, print materials, and digital marketing. I’ll also provide web-optimized versions for quick uploads to social media. You’ll have a versatile library of images to use across all your platforms.

6. How do you ensure the photos align with my brand?

I take the time to understand your brand during our initial consultation. We’ll discuss your target audience, brand colors, style preferences, and the message you want to convey. I’ll incorporate these elements into every aspect of the shoot, from wardrobe to backgrounds, to make sure the photos feel cohesive and on-brand.

7. Where are the sessions held?

Sessions can be held wherever best reflects your brand! This could be your home office, a rented studio, a local café, a staged home or an outdoor location. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to suggest places that align with the vibe you want to create.

8. Are there additional costs for things like locations or props?

Potentially, yes. Some locations may require rental fees or permits, and props beyond what you provide may need to be sourced at an additional cost. I’ll be transparent about any extra costs during our planning session so there are no surprises. Too busy or you don’t have access to good places to source any specific props? I offer clients the option to shop some props for you!

9. What should I wear? Do you offer wardrobe guidance or styling tips?

Ah, the age-old question. The answer: whatever makes you feel confident and fits your brand. A few tips:

• Stick to colors and styles that match your brand vibe and look best on you! (Please don’t stress too much on matching your colors. It does not have to be perfect but it should compliment your brand.)

• Avoid bold patterns that might distract from your face or message.

• Layer up! Jackets, scarves, or jewelry add visual interest and can give a high end polished look.

I have had many clients text me outfit ideas from their closet or when shopping! I love helping you put the whole look together!

10. Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?

Yes the success of your brand shoot is determined on how the details of planning and prep we put into it up front.

• Clean and tidy up your space if we’re shooting on location (or at least shove the clutter into a closet).

• Think about props that tell your story, your laptop, tools of the trade, products, or even your dog. (Yes, pets are always a good idea.)

• Come with a clear vision of what you want to achieve. If you’re not sure, don’t worry, that’s what I’m here for!

11. What if I’m awkward in front of the camera?

You and literally everyone else. Trust me, you’re not alone. The key is to work with a photographer (hi, it’s me!) who knows how to put you at ease.

I actually have a freebie called Camera Ready Confidence! You can sign up for it here! https://kirstieveatchphotography.myflodesk.com/pxnvabkkoe

Regardless, I’ll guide you through poses, keep things fun, and capture moments where you’re relaxed and authentic. You’ll look natural, not like someone told you to “smile!” at the DMV. And hopefully you have more fun at your shoot than at the DMV as well.

12. How long does it take to get my photos?

You can expect your gallery within 2 weeks. I also will send out some highlight photo within 48 hours as well!

13. How much does it cost?

Pricing can vary depending on the photographer and what’s included, but think of brand photography as an investment in your business. These photos will be your go-to content for websites, social media, marketing materials, and beyond.

My base packages are on my website! You can view those here! https://kirstieveatch.com/brand-photography-pricing

If you have a team, a product based brand or in need of corporate headshots reach out to get a custom quote!

Some locations have rental fees, and some of my collections cover those costs and include hair and makeup!

14. Do you travel for sessions, and is there an additional fee?

Yes, I’m happy to travel to your location! Travel within 30 miles outside of the Des Moines Metro area and that is included in my pricing. For locations beyond that, there may be a travel fee to cover expenses like mileage or accommodations. I’ll provide an estimate during our consultation.

15. How far in advance should I book a session?

I recommend booking at least 4-6 weeks in advance. This gives us enough time to plan all the details and ensure your preferred date is available. (I usually only book one brand session a week!) If you’re working on a tight timeline, let me know, I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

16. How do I book a session?

Easy! Reach out to me, and we’ll set up a quick call to discuss your needs, goals, and vision. From there, I will send out a contract and invoice (typically I take 35% of the total to get on my books. The remaining is due 3 days prior to our session but I do also offer payment plans! We then lock in a date, plan the details, and get you one step closer to a gallery of stunning photos that scream you.
